Plyometrics Routine – Popular Beliefs Gone Wrong

on August 28th, 2011 by Juan Marco

Hey, Juan here.

I wanted to share with you some key findings that were discovered by Tim Ferris from his “4 Hour Body” book. The book is about weight loss, plyometrics and physical strength. The main selling point of the book is that you can develop only a four hour body workout per week and still lose tremendous kilogram of fat.

Now, I am not going to tell you how he does that, but I will share with you some popular rules that we believed to be true but are actually wrong. Here are three popular beliefs that are wrong:

-  Belief # 1: To be in good shape means to lose weight. If you’re planning to lose 20 pounds of weight, you will not guarantee the best physique. Your goal should be a 20-pound change in appearance. This entails losing 20 pounds of fat or gaining 20 pounds of muscle. It could also be losing 15 pounds of fat and gaining 5 pounds of muscle, or some blend in between. To be able to design the right physique, you should include both subtraction and addition in your calculation. Muscle building is an essential part of getting into the right shape.

-  Belief # 2: Physical recreation and exercise are two different concepts. Physical recreation, which includes activities such as baseball, swimming, yoga, rock- climbing, etc, is haphazard and difficult to draw from it a cause and effect relationship. On the other hand, exercises are specific and precise movements that are intended to produce a target change. It is simple and trackable. Exercise, in our context, however, is the application of measurable stimuli to decrease fat, increase muscle, or increase performance. So have fun with recreation but use specific exercises to produce change.

-   Belief # 3: The art of yo-yoing food is not bad. Eating more, then less, then more, and so on in a continuous sine wave is something that can help you accelerate progress if done right. Scheduling overeating at specific times can accelerate weight loss. Hard to believe, but true if done in the right way. According to Tim Ferris, “forget balance and embrace cycling. It’s a key ingredient in rapid body redesign”.

If you would like to know the remaining popular beliefs or how Tim was able to lose 20 pounds in 30 days, I suggest checking out his book. It is an enjoyable and educational reading that will help you reform your physique in no time.

Best Plyometric Workout Routine

on August 28th, 2011 by Juan Marco

Hey, Juan here.

I wanted to share with you my humble experience about how to find the best plyometric workouts. Plyometric workouts are a great way to increase your jumping and stamina by focusing on working out some essential muscles such as legs and back. The importance of plyometric workouts lies in the fact that they not only make your jump more explosive but also lead to improved sports performance and faster sprinting.

In this post, I will try to help you find plyometric workouts that will benefit you the most. It is essential to understand that you will come across a lot of products on plyometrics but your decision on which to choose should be based on your objective and deficiencies only. Here are some guidelines that you can follow so that you don’t pick up the wrong plyometric workouts:

  1. Make sure the plyometric workouts you choose focus on the weaknesses you currently have. If you are looking to spike up your stamina, then you have to focus on certain workouts. On the other hand, if you want to increase your vertical jump, then you have to go for a high-intensity program.
  2. If you come across a plyometrics training program that promises you to improve your conditioning or endurance, then it is either a scam or the creator of the program does not know anything about plyometrics. Make sure to understand the nature of the program because such workouts are designed to improve your reactive and explosive strength.
  3. Some products out there promise you with something too good to be true. Don’t get excited quickly and try to check the workout program before you buy it. If the program promises you an intense five-day per week workout, then do not buy it. Plyometrics should be performed approximately 2-3 times per week and should be spaced throughout the day so you are able to recover. When the workout is intense, make sure to rest at least 48 hours. These are guidelines that are agreed upon by experts to have the most effective training program.

Hope the post helps you make informed decisions,

Juan.
